Craving Something Different, Have Laptop Will Travel

I had had enough! Snowmageddon, Covid, feeling isolated and craving something more. To commemorate my 50th year of life I decided to skip winter and skip town. Through a Canadian contact I decided on the little beachside town of Las Terrenas in the Samana province. I found a cute little apartment minutes from Playa Bonita, which I was to later learn is one of the top rated beaches in the Carribean. I quickly made connections and friends and spent six months experiencing all the town and area has to offer.

I was changed.

I returned home to Newfoundland in May 2022, dreaming of the day I could come back and the idea of a broker retreat was born. I needed to get a few things out of the way first. A secret elopement on Play Bonita in April 2023, and our real wedding back in NL in August 2023.

I am so fortunate that my husband supports my dream of hosting retreats in the Dominican, otherwise I would be newly wed and newly divorced in the same year!

In September 2023 I once again headed to Las Terrenas returning in November more determined that ever to share this beautiful place with my women broker community.

My name is Tonia Mercer

I was born and raised in St. John's, NL. I call the near by town of St. Philips home, with my new husband and our two cats, Trinity and Joey. We both have grown children who are off on thier own journeys. Empty nesting is awesome!

I have been a mortgage broker for 15 years and work from my home office or other warm remote location (which may include my bed with heating pad). I HATE THE COLD.

I am a lover of the Dominican Republic, spending several months each year in Las Terrenas.

I am passionate about learning. I love reading personal and professional development books. My favorite, which has become an operation manual for my life, is "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle.

In the last five years I have been intentional in moving toward things that make me feel fear or discomfort. I move toward opportunities to grow... not wild animals.

I am altruistic by nature, I believe my purpose in life is to share my gifts and help others move the needle little by little toward their best life. Which is why I have created this retreat.

Work Remotely

You have the ability to work from anywhere! If you have ever wondered what it would be like to run your business remotely from another country.... warm country.... with the support of someone that has done so for many years, now is the chance to dive in (to the warm turquoise waters) and give it a try. I promise the wifi and internet is reliable and the time zone is favorable.

AND I might say warm alot... sorry not sorry!

Daily walks and swimming in the warm ocean. Learn Spanish dance moves at the disco (yep that's what they call it in LT), visit El Limon falls, experience a fresh seafood catch and cook on private beach, enjoy happy hour with local expats, meet with local builders and realtors, enjoy a fancy private picnic on the beach or read a book by the pool or with your toes in the sand.

Contribution

My vision for these retreats is to bring women together who have an open heart and an interest in leaving people and places better than they found them.

I created the animal feeding mission Mercer's Mission in May of 2022. Each day we feed two neighbourhoods of street dog and cats, find them homes and get them spade and neutered. Your participation in this retreat is contributing to our mission. Thank you!
